Frey Freyday – State of Mind

(Frey Freyday is simply a bunch of inspirational, motivational and other quotes meant to make you think, reflect, smile, even laugh a bit. Hopefully helpful, useful stuff….)

Some people, say life is hard. It is not. Some people say it’s easy. It is not.
Some say it’s lonely, tricky, or a test. It is not. Life is only a reflection, of whatever you say. What say you? The Universe (www.tut.com)

Conflict is very much a state of mind. If you’re not in that state of mind, it doesn’t bother you. -Unknown

Fears are nothing more than a state of mind.-Napoleon Hill

In words are seen the state of mind and character and disposition of the speaker.-Plutarch

A good stance and posture reflect a proper state of mind.-Morihei Ueshiba

It is not a dreamlike state, but the somehow insulated state, that a great musician achieves in a great performance. He’s aware of where he is and what he’s doing, but his mind is on the playing of the instrument with an internal sense of rightness.-Arnold Palmer

Fear seems to have many causes. Fear of loss, fear of failure, fear of being hurt, and so on, but ultimately all fear is the ego’s fear of death, of annihilation. To the ego, death is always just around the corner. In this mind-identified state, fear of death affects every aspect of your life.-Eckhart Tolle

People may hear your words, but they feel your state of mind.-John C. Maxwell

My state of mind is that if you push me towards something that you think is a weakness, then I will turn that perceived weakness into a strength.-Michael Jordan

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way, to choose one’s own state of mind.-Victor E. Frankl

Words To Live By:

state of mind –noun attitudeperspectiveoutlookapproachmooddisposition, frame of mindmindset, way of looking at things.

Your state of mind is everything.

We all face challenges, stresses, ‘challenging people’, and difficult situations

We also face unique opportunities, chances to excel, and each day we have a wide open future.

In either case, a challenging one or a great one, we can benefit greatly by being in the right state of mind.

Some say it’s peace of mind, some say you’re ‘being you’, some say you’re ‘connected’, etc.

Think about when you’re in a great state of mind. You’re connected, you’re in a zone, you’re making things happen and your performance, thought processes, feelings are all good. It sometimes seems like magic happens here.

What if you were in a great state of mind when you did your work? When you interacted with a loved one or friend or coworker? What if you took a moment to pause, relax, and shake off the initial reaction you have next time something ‘bad’ happens and you instead face it with a great state of mind?

How you stand and move affects your thoughts and attitude. Shoulders back, check back and up, head up, deep breaths and you feel confident. Shoulders and head down, shallow breathing and you’re depressed or fearful, etc. Similarly, the language and questions you use all day long affect you. Do you ask, “Why am I so lucky?” or do you ask “What’s wrong with me?”-Your brain will search for an answer to each. Do you say “I don’t know” “I don’t care” or “Whatever” a lot? Is that useful? What you focus on expands- focus on what works in your life, focus on what you want and what you can take action to reach your dreams and goals. Focus on what you are- or could be- grateful for. There are still negative things in life, hurdles, setbacks and irritating things/people but focusing on the good stuff makes life better.

Frey Freyday was actually born out of something I created called “Words To Live By” (WTLB). Going forward, I will now not only share the quotes, as you may be used to receiving, but also a related (WTLB). In 1999, when we had our first daughter, I was contemplating how I would raise my new beautiful child, and I was thinking about how I can best educate her and my other children about values, morals, and other key thoughts about life. School offers education. Religion offers some values and morals. Parents offer most of it, sometimes intentionally, sometimes accidentally.

So I created a (WTLB) book, like a dictionary, which lists things like honesty, love, persistence, etc. with a definition that I created, with my wife’s input. I then turned it into a workbook with one word per page and space below for notes. For years we would discuss with my two daughters and they would draw pictures and make notes in the blank space. I may share some of those images with you. As they got older, they were less inclined to draw and more open to quotes and references from adults, hence where Frey Freyday came from…

Frey Freyday – Thought

(Frey Freyday is simply a bunch of inspirational, motivational and other quotes meant to make you think, reflect, smile, even laugh a bit. Hopefully helpful, useful stuff….)

Thought-[THôt]-NOUN-an idea or opinion produced by thinking, or occurring suddenly in the mind.

Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results. Willie Nelson

A man is but the product of his thoughts what he thinks, he becomes. Mahatma Gandhi

Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don’t complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don’t bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live! Bob Marley

The more man meditates upon good thoughts, the better will be his world and the world at large. Confucius

Our life is what our thoughts make it. Marcus Aurelius

If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought. Peace Pilgrim

WORD TO LIVE BY:
Thoughts – something that we can control, something that affects and influences our attitude, habits, beliefs, identity and more.

Everything in your life right now once started as just a thought, a desired, and inspired moment.

They say that we have as much as, or more, than 60,000 thoughts each day.

We have the power to control, change and improve our thoughts each day.

Thinking about what you want, think about your goals, think about action steps that you can take now towards that.

(avoid thinking about what you Don’t want!)

This also goes for feelings! – if you want to feel relaxed (not stressed), feel inspired (not frustrated), feel happy (not down) then spend time each day thinking about that simple goal, and what you can do to get there. Avoid thinking about the negative feelings. What you focus on expands.

The simple act of thinking about goals, writing it down, repeating it, focusing on it will help.

We can prime ourselves – studies show that if you look at and focus on certain things, later on you’ll ‘see more’ of that stuff and typically you’ll act with that stuff in mind.

So prime yourself the Right way. (We prime ourselves each day no matter what with the news, social media, etc. – often in a bad way with gloomy/negative news, etc. Take control)

In our daily lives we can’t control much; other people, weather, the economy, the news, etc. – but we CAN control our thoughts – and our thoughts influence our day, our beliefs, our habits, our identity.

Frey Freyday – Strength

(Frey Freyday is simply a bunch of inspirational, motivational and other quotes meant to make you think, reflect, smile, even laugh a bit. Hopefully helpful, useful stuff….)

 –

You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice. – Bob Marley

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. Harriet Tubman

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage. Lao Tzu

Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle. Napoleon Hill

Calm mind brings inner strength and self-confidence, so that’s very important for good health. Dalai Lama

A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. Christopher Reeve

WORD TO LIVE BY:

Strength – the capacity of an object or substance to withstand great force or pressure. Something we all have but sometimes we forget that we have it.

I look back at life and, like almost anyone, there were times when I probably got into a situation because I could have made a better choice, or ‘life happened’ and I found myself in a situation.

I recall one year, a tough year for me, and there were times when I felt like I did not have any personal strength left. Life happened in a number of ways with my career and with losses of loved ones. I also made some poor choices based out of fear and emotion. To be frank, I also was using my situation, my emotions, my hard times, and my seemingly lack of strength as an excuse. I had strength in me all the time.

For a period of time, I was telling myself a story that portrayed me as weak, hurt, a victim, etc. In retrospect, that was a poor story to keep telling myself, it certainly was not useful or empowering.

Later, I began to tell a different story, and I recognized that I have to be accountable, responsible, and that I do have strength, and when I don’t feel it, I need to seek it out. Sometimes that’s found in content, sometimes memories, powerful questions, talking to good friends, getting into a good state of mind, exercise, meditation, laughter, relationships…..

Look back into your own life as I do, you’ve faced large challenges, you’ve accomplished things, you’ve touched other people’s lives. You have overcome situations. You’ve proven yourself to be a person of strength, you just forgot. Humans are incredibly strong beings.

Strength can be built each and every day. Strength can come from our relationships. It is sometimes easy to find strength when I take a moment and reflect on the great family and friends that I have. I feel empowered and I want to do better because of them.

Many of us are walking around stressed, dealing with anxiety, maybe even fearful about things. Be careful of the thoughts you put into your mind. Feed your mind good things, empowering thoughts, ideas that will give you strength- this includes everything from the media to your own thoughts. We are what we read/watch/think.

Many of us think that others have strength and we don’t, or we look to others. We all have it. No matter how ‘ordinary’ or normal you think you are, we all have enough strength to get us through, to make things better.

Frey Freyday-Familiar Zone

(Frey Freyday is simply a bunch of inspirational, motivational and other quotes meant to make you think, reflect, smile, even laugh a bit. Hopefully helpful, useful stuff….)

People have a hard time letting go of their suffering. Out of a fear of the unknown, they prefer suffering that is familiar. Thich Nhat Hanh

We can’t solve modern problems by going back in time. Retreating to the safety of the familiar is an understandable response, but God has called us to a life of faith. And faith requires us to face the unknown while trusting Him completely. Charles R. Swindoll

A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it. Max Planck

Your life changes the moment you make a new, congruent, and committed decision.” – Tony Robbins

It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power. Alan Cohen

WORD TO LIVE BY:

Familiar Zone – We’ve all heard of the comfort zone. The Familiar Zone is different. Example: “I am familiar with my situation but it isn’t comfortable.”

We humans become familiar with our situation and we resist change. We may be in a situation, relationship, whatever that is familiar to us but we’re not comfortable in it. Many of us have been/are in a familiar paycheck-to-paycheck routine that is familiar but uncomfortable, even unpleasant. Yet it is sometimes tough to break away from the familiarity.

  1. First, we have to have some self-awareness and realize it.
  2. We need to get clear on the next move. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it won’t be your last move, but you absolutely have to make a move, even a small step. Make your move BEFORE you’re ready.
  3. Ask better questions. Successful people ask better questions. Simply interrupting your familiar patterns, questions, and self talk, you can change perspective, change thoughts, change your momentum significantly. Think about the questions you say/ask yourself now, and then try to improve or change those questions to more empowering questions that lead you in the right direction.
  4. Believe in yourself, you are worth it, you are enough, you deserve it, and you have all you need in you now.
  5. The unfamiliar is sometimes intimidating but it also offers new adventures, fun things, new people, more opportunities, growth, rewards and a new you.

Frey Freyday – Communication

(Frey Freyday is simply a bunch of inspirational, motivational and other quotes meant to make you think, reflect, smile, even laugh a bit. Hopefully helpful, useful stuff….)

A man’s character may be learned from the adjectives which he habitually uses in conversation.-Mark Twain

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.-George Bernard Shaw

Truthful words are not beautiful; beautiful words are not truthful. Good words are not persuasive; persuasive words are not good.-Lao Tzu

To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.-Tony Robbins

Effective communication is 20% what you know and 80% how you feel about what you know.-Jim Rohn

The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t said.-Peter Drucker

Of all of our inventions for mass communication, pictures still speak the most universally understood language.-Walt Disney

First learn the meaning of what you say, and then speak.-Epictetus

Communication works for those who work at it.-John Powell

It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it – Unknown

Speak clearly, if you speak at all; carve every word before you let it fall.-Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

By and large, language is a tool for concealing the truth.-George Carlin

WORD TO LIVE BY:

Communication – \kə-ˌmyü-nə-ˈkā-shən\ – the act or process of using words, sounds, signs, or behaviors to express or exchange information or to express your ideas, thoughts, feelings, etc., to someone else

Recently I read in an article by Brendon Burchard that stated almost everything good that has come into your life happened because of how you communicate. On the flip side, it is also mostly true that every relationship that was ruined, every pitch that didn’t go well, or every opportunity to influence that fell flat, all came because of the way you communicate?

Any career or vocation benefits from good communication; healthcare, sales, auto mechanic, manufacturer, artist, education, management, whatever. Do you want a surgeon that doesn’t communicate (or listen) well? If your mechanic has poor communication skills, that might not work out well. Today, schools are helping students learn and improve their ‘soft skills’, also called emotional intelligence, as part of a necessary set of abilities that all students need as they move on to college and career.

We discount our communication skills because it is something we do every single day. It doesn’t matter how smart or skilled someone is, if they can’t communicate effectively, it doesn’t matter.

And with a lack of attention comes a lack of progress. Communication is a skill that needs ongoing attention and improvement. We can learn new things and reinforce good habits. By being aware and focused on good communication, we won’t just be going through the motions, we can communicate in effective, memorable, striking ways so that we connect better with those around us.

One of the best ways to communicate better is to see the situation, issue or circumstances from the other person’s point of view. If you make the message about them, from their point of view, it will carry a lot more weight. Ask ‘how do they perceive this?’ and ‘what’s really important to them now?’.  Remember that emotion is a big part of communication; infuse your message with the right emotions and it will work better. Don’t just communicate, communicate better.

Frey Freyday was actually born out of something I created called “Words To Live By” (WTLB). Bonus: Communication tips from PETER DIAMANDIS:

How Should We Communicate?

We are social animals, and we communicate A LOT through the intonations of our voice and our facial features.

Basic rules:

If there’s something critical to communicate – close a deal, raise capital, tell someone you love them or want to break up – do it in person.

If you can’t meet in person, then do it by Skype (or Beam, see below).

If you can’t do it by Skype, then do it by phone.

Everything else (today) is basically inadequate for anything really important. That being said, if you have to email, see below.

Where Will Technology Help in the Future?

The good news is that technology under development leapfrogs the current technology in place, and will create a more meaningful and intimate level of communications.

In the decade ahead, there are three key areas that will drive meaning capabilities:

Telepresence/Beam: While Skype is okay, it’s static and limiting. If you follow my work, you’ve heard me speak about Suitable Technologies and their Beam telepresence robot. Some call it Skype on Wheels, but it is much more. I have 15 Beams across all of my companies and one of them at home. Telepresence robots like the Beam (and its future derivatives) are the next best thing to being face to face. It really gives you the ability to move around and participate, as if you were there in the flesh. Even better, in the very near future this technology is going to give you superpowers. You will have the ability to pull up details on your screen about the person to whom you’re speaking. But it could get even stranger. Imagine having the ability to use the sensors on your robot to measure the heart rate and pupillary reaction of the person you’re speaking to during a negotiation. Technologies like the Beam will expand our sensory experience when we communicate.

Virtual Worlds: The next step in technology-enabled communication comes when we’re able to skip meeting in person, and instead meet inside of a high-resolution virtual world. A world in which two individuals can have their near-perfect avatars have conversations and interactions not possible in the real world. In these virtual worlds, the avatar’s facial features mirror your exact facial features using the same technology James Cameron pioneered in his moving Avatar. This is the direction companies like Philip Rosedale’s High Fidelity is taking us.

Brain-Computer Interface: The ultimate form of communications will materialize in the following decade, as we develop Brain Computer Interface (BCI) — the ability to connect mind-to-computer and computer-to-mind. This will enable the most intimate level of communication conceivable, whereby you have the ability to understand a person’s most personal thoughts and feelings.

Frey Freyday-Enough

(Frey Freyday is simply a bunch of inspirational, motivational and other quotes meant to make you think, reflect, smile, even laugh a bit. Hopefully helpful, useful stuff….)

You are absolutely enough the way you are. Laurieann Gibson

You are important enough to ask and you are blessed enough to receive back. Wayne Dyer

You alone are enough. Oprah Winfrey

You are enough, which I believe is critical for any human being to get in their bones. KaDee Strickland

Try your hardest to be confident in who you are. You are enough – you are beautiful. Meagan Tandy

WORD TO LIVE BY:

Enough –
Today we all strive to be better, to learn, grow, expand, and take in the heaps of information around us. We want to improve for our family, our career, to keep up with the Joneses, etc. etc.

We sometimes need to stop and remember that what we have inside us is enough.

Stop waiting for it to be perfect – or for you to be perfect.

Stop looking for that next book, or show, or program or whatever it is so that you can learn that new thing or ‘get just a little better’. You have all you need inside right now. Put down that new book and go out and do something.

Believe in yourself, you are enough, you have enough.

I don’t remember who said it but there was someone who once that said we need to remind ourselves “all I need is within me now”. This doesn’t mean that we give up learning or growing, but it does mean that we need to recognize that we are powerful beings capable of magic, growth, love, and things beyond what we really understand. We just need to believe and then go do it.

Frey Freyday – Living

(Frey Freyday is simply a bunch of inspirational, motivational and other quotes meant to make you think, reflect, smile, even laugh a bit. Hopefully helpful, useful stuff..)

-LIVING-

I feel alive today because today is a blessing. In this moment, I can find misery or meaning, boredom or motivation. I can expand the hatred in the world, or I can amplify love. In all the chaos, I can find stillness and joy within. All is well, and nothing has to happen to “give” me more happiness in life. I simply choose to be happy now, to be grateful now, to be a source of love and light for others. I am whole. I am ready. This is my day. – Brendon Burchard

When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love. –Marcus Aurelius

I don’t believe people are looking for the meaning of life as much as they are looking for the experience of being alive. –Joseph Campbell

Passion rebuilds the world for the youth. It makes all things alive and significant. –Ralph Waldo Emerson

Here is the test to find whether your mission on Earth is finished: if you’re alive, it isn’t. –Richard Bach

Look, I don’t want to wax philosophic, but I will say that if you’re alive you’ve got to flap your arms and legs, you’ve got to jump around a lot, for life is the very opposite of death, and therefore you must at very least think noisy and colorfully, or you’re not alive. –Mel Brooks

I enjoy life when things are happening. I don’t care if it’s good things or bad things. That means you’re alive. –Joan Rivers

You have to motivate yourself with challenges. That’s how you know you’re still alive. –Jerry Seinfeld

Life must be lived and curiosity kept alive. One must never, for whatever reason, turn his back on life. –Eleanor Roosevelt

It is not the end of the physical body that should worry us. Rather, our concern must be to live while we’re alive – to release our inner selves from the spiritual death that comes with living behind a facade designed to conform to external definitions of who and what we are. –Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact. –William James

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. –Winston Churchill

Open your eyes, look within. Are you satisfied with the life you’re living? –Bob Marley

WORD TO LIVE BY:

Living – Once in a while, at least, we can benefit from taking a moment of gratitude for just being alive. We can also benefit from just plain old living – living life, being, listening, loving, laughing, doing, caring, communicating and whatever it means to you to really ‘live life’.

We can enjoy the present, enjoy the moment by just pausing and feeling the breeze, listening to our breath, observing things in the now (rather than worrying about tomorrow or fretting about yesterday). We can be mindful in our daily activities, rather than going through them like a mindless drone.

Just think of every great memory that you have. You were in that moment, you were ‘present’ at that time and that’s why you have that memory. You can create new memories but only if you are again in the moment.

We can, in our own ways, touch other people’s lives. We can progress in our own lives by doing what is important, taking action towards a dream, helping, caring, growing.

Living life. Being alive. Enjoying the time that we have.

Frey Freyday- Action

WORD TO LIVE BY:

Action – [ak-shuh n] – the process or state of acting or of being active

I believe that action is everything. Dumb or smart. Evil or well-meaning. Good ideas are all fine and good but without action, they are nothing.

Lots of people know what to do, but few people actually do what they know. Knowing is not enough. You must take action.

Success in any field comes from taking the initiative and following up… and then persisting and taking action on a consistent basis. To be successful, we must take control of our consistent actions.

It’s not what we do once in a while that makes us who we are, but what we do consistently.

Ask yourself, “What simple action could I take today to move toward a dream or towards success in your life? “

I then turned it into a workbook with one word per page and space below for notes. For years we would discuss with my two daughters and they would draw pictures and make notes in the blank space. I may share some of those images with you. As they got older, they were less inclined to draw and more open to quotes and references from adults, hence where Frey Freyday came from….

Frey Freyday – Brave/Bold

(Frey Freyday is simply a bunch of inspirational, motivational and other quotes meant to make you think, reflect, smile, even laugh a bit. Hopefully helpful, useful stuff….)

BRAVE – [brāv] -ready to face and endure danger or pain; showing courage:

BOLD-[bōld]-of a person, action, or idea) showing an ability to take risks; confident and courageous.

I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. ‘Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death. -Leonardo da Vinci

Forgiveness is a virtue of the brave.-Indira Gandhi

We could never learn to be brave and patient, if there were only joy in the world.-Helen Keller

Be brave. Take risks. Nothing can substitute experience.-Paulo Coelho

People often fool themselves into the comfortable life by reasoning that taking “baby steps” are sufficient. But if we are forever taking baby steps — living life without bold steps and those chancy bets of courage that are the mark of greatness — then our character and dreams will forever languish in their infancy. To live a fully charged life, we must allow the risk and vulnerability of those great leaps into the unknown. Let us be so brave.- Brendon Burchard

A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer.-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Be brave enough to live life creatively. The creative place where no one else has ever been.-Alan Alda

Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened.-Billy Graham

Fortune and love favor the brave.-Ovid

WORDS TO LIVE BY:

Brave/Bold – someone who exhibits bravery or boldness can fully live life, they can help others, they can do well in their careers and in relationships. They can look back at their lives and know that they tried, they lived. Someone with bravery/boldness AND some compassion can evolve to the next level and help others too.

WHATEVER YOU CAN DO OR DREAM YOU CAN DO, BEGIN IT. BOLDNESS HAS GENIUS, POWER AND MAGIC IN IT!

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Claim your independence

Brave, personal stories of people who make bold moves to claim a better life.

Frey Freyday – Possibilities

(Frey Freyday is simply a bunch of inspirational, motivational and other quotes meant to make you think, reflect, smile, even laugh a bit. Hopefully helpful, useful stuff….)

pos·si·bil·i·ties –[ˌpäsəˈbilədē] –NOUN- a thing that may be chosen or done out of several possible alternatives:

The goal of education is not to increase the amount of knowledge but to create the possibilities for a child to invent and discover, to create men who are capable of doing new things. Jean Piaget

My favourite words are possibilities, opportunities and curiosity. I think if you are curious, you create opportunities, and then if you open the doors, you create possibilities. Mario Testino

The possibilities are numerous once we decide to act and not react. George Bernard Shaw

One’s only rival is one’s own potentialities. One’s only failure is failing to live up to one’s own possibilities. In this sense, every man can be a king, and must therefore be treated like a king. Abraham Maslow

Stop thinking in terms of limitations and start thinking in terms of possibilities. Terry Josephson

WORDS TO LIVE BY

Possibilities – Everyday we wake up and we have a world of possibilities before us. All is possible, all is open.

I don’t have much to add. Each day we have so many opportunities and possibilities before us. I know that I tend to overlook this. We get in our routines, we limit our focus and we don’t see all of what we can do and all of what is before us.

Think about the time when you didn’t think something was possible – or maybe you just didn’t even think about it at all – and then one day that all changed. The doors opened and now you see things different. A different perspective, more wisdom, more opportunities, more options.

Often we don’t know or appreciate what is really possible for each of us, but we need to push ourselves.

One day there can be an idea, a concept, a possibility….and then with time, effort, focus this possibility becomes a reality.

I am trying to keep my eyes open to more possibilities each day.
