Frey Freyday – Instead

(Frey Freyday is simply a bunch of inspirational, motivational and other quotes meant to make you think, reflect, smile, even laugh a bit. Hopefully helpful, useful stuff..)

What would have happened if you and your organization, instead of working on today’s crisis, built something worthwhile for tomorrow? What would have been discussed instead? What would have been designed instead? The urgency of the day feels like an appropriate reason to step away from the important thing we might have been doing instead. Weeks or months later, we don’t even remember what that urgent thing was. All we have to show for it is the thing we didn’t build. –Seth Godin

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. –Ralph Waldo Emerson

Forgiving does not erase the bitter past. A healed memory is not a deleted memory. Instead, forgiving what we cannot forget creates a new way to remember. We change the memory of our past into a hope for our future. Lewis B. Smedes

One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today. Dale Carnegie

Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer. Denis Waitley

There are horrible people who, instead of solving a problem, tangle it up and make it harder to solve for anyone who wants to deal with it. Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all. Friedrich Nietzsche

WORD TO LIVE BY:

in·stead [inˈsted] as an alternative or substitute:

What if for a moment, a day, a week, a month, a year – what if you did something instead of what you do currently?

What if you turned off the television and wrote a friend, talked to a friend/loved one that you haven’t talked to for a while, or asked a parent or older relative about your family?

What if you did something creative next time you were bored – paint, draw, write, sculpt, or build something?

Instead of judging that person in line at the store, or judging that co-worker or neighbor, what if you gave them a compliment, encouraged them, or simply sent them a positive prayer or good kharma?

Instead of going over all of the ‘bad’ things in your day, what if you really tried to list 10 ‘good’ things?

Instead of labeling something as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ (a person/event/situation/etc.) what if you just saw that it happened and didn’t judge it for now?

Instead of holding onto stress, nervousness, tension, and worry, what if you let go, right now, and let it happen knowing that it will work out OK? Instead of fear, have faith.

Instead of being fearful about something, instead of seeing scarcity, instead of being angry, what if you made an effort to be more loving and trusting, looking for abundance, and what if you took a moment to calm down and face the situation without anger and with understanding.

Instead of pointing out someone’s faults and gaffes (we ALL have them), what if you pointed out all of the things he/she did right or pointed out the effort that was put forth?

Instead of going through the day thinking of what comes next, tomorrow, yesterday, and things that could go wrong, what if you just focused on the moment and tried to be aware of every breath, movement, and sense?

Instead of waiting or over-analyzing, what if you took action now?

Instead of waiting, tell your loved ones how you really feel today. Talk to them and listen to them.

Instead of allowing distractions to fill your time, control and focus what you do each moment.

Instead of putting forth the same level of effort you typically do, what if you put forth even a little more hard work, ingenuity, effort, enthusiasm and gratitude? What would happen?

Instead of looking at the situation the same way, what if you looked at it differently?

Instead of doing the same thing you always do, what would happen if you did something different?

Instead of reading this, go live life.

Frey Freyday was actually born out of something I created called “Words To Live By” (WTLB). Going forward, I will now not only share the quotes, as you may be used to receiving, but also a related (WTLB). In 1999, when we had our first daughter, I was contemplating how I would raise my new beautiful child, and I was thinking about how I can best educate her and my other children about values, morals, and other key thoughts about life. School offers education. Religion offers some values and morals. Parents offer most of it, sometimes intentionally, sometimes accidentally.
So I created a (WTLB) book, like a dictionary, which lists things like honesty, love, persistence, etc. with a definition that I created, with my wife’s input. I then turned it into a workbook with one word per page and space below for notes. For years we would discuss with my two daughters and they would draw pictures and make notes in the blank space. I may share some of those images with you. As they got older, they were less inclined to draw and more open to quotes and references from adults, hence where Frey Freyday came from..
